In light of the ongoing uncertainty being caused by the Coronavirus outbreak across many parts of the world we recognise that many students may not be certain at this time about their ability to take up their offer of a place at SOAS University of London for this September.
In recognition of this we are offering all International PGT applicants the following:
• deadline to accept the offer and pay the deposit 31 May 2020
• all deposits will be refundable or deferrable if your students are unable to enrol this September
• application deadline extended to 31 July 2020
• online English Language Testing in lieu of IELTS (details below)
If a student is required to submit evidence of English language as part of their application, please see below details of the two online English language tests we are now accepting.
Online English Testing (DuoLingo and LanguageCert)
We understand that the coronavirus has had an impact on the ability of students from many regions to take the IELTS, TOEFL and PTE test, as test centres have been closed. We therefore will be accepting the Duolingo and the LanguageCert online tests from all International and European applicants in regions affected by test centre closures (for the September 2020 intake).
DuoLingo
• costs US $49 and can be taken from any computer with online access (need a microphone and camera)
• students cannot submit more than three tests
• we recommend students read the FAQs and do some practice tests before completing the test (which takes around one hour to complete)
Requirement
• 130: direct entry
• 120-129: entry with ‘in-sessional’ English support (during term)
• 110-119: entry with a 4-week Pre-sessional course
• 100-109: entry with an 8-week Pre-sessional course
LanguageCert International ESOL C1 Expert
• We can only accept the combined written and oral test (costs £212)
• We recommend students read the FAQs before taking the online test
Requirement
• High Pass: direct entry (or in-sessional English)
• Pass: entry with a 4-week Pre-sessional course
We will continue to keep the situation under review and we will keep you informed of any further changes we may introduce to help with applications to SOAS University of London.
